With paint and a tongue-in-cheek; my artistic process combines a child-like wonder and a cynic’s dark humor. I want to capture the effect of a warm glow stretching over the cheeks of a captivated audience around a fire. There’s a feeling that brings us together in the dark when we share our stories. It’s that shared experience that illuminates these paintings with eerie candescence. The effect of these paintings is similar to reminiscing your childhood through the lens of the adult who grew up too quickly. Happy memories and the current existential reality combine, like a child’s laugh at a funeral. Perhaps it feels inappropriate, uncomfortable, or even humorous; that is the duality of human experience. I believe in ghost stories and folklore, and a dark joke at your own expense. My paintings are reflections of that, a balance of humor and a scary story shared among friends.
